This Weekend:
The Marching Terriers will be marching in the annual St. Patrick's day parade on Saturday, March 12, 2016.  This is a new experience for most of our band members and we are excited to be marching through the city!  The parade starts at 12 Noon in St. Louis.

The full itinerary is here, below are the highlights:
  • Call time is at 7:00 AM at CCHS.  Please make sure your student has eaten breakfast.
    • Band students need show shirts (or white t-shirt), black shorts, black socks, and their band polo for the stop at the St. Clair mall on the way home.
    • Guard needs their makeup and gear, including a sheet for modesty while changing on the bus.
  • Students will need water bottles, bus snacks/lunch (there is NO food stop before after the 12 Noon performance), and money for food/shopping at the St. Clair mall.
  • The Parade Performance is expected to end about 1:30 PM, then students will load busses, change, and head to the St. Clair mall.
  • Students will be free to roam the St. Clair Mall until 5:00 PM.  Then, they will load busses and head back to Carbondale.
  • Approximate return to CCHS is at 6:45 PM. Students need to unload busses and the band trailer, put equipment away, leave for Spring Break! Don't forget to take instruments home with you!
As always, thank you for your support and enjoy the rest of your spring break!

Band Booster Meeting Highlights for November

Holiday Apparel Order:

Our Booster President, Carol Eaton Brandenburg, has put together an order form for last apparel order of the season, just in time for Holiday gift giving!
  • Download your order form for the Holiday Apparel Order here.
  • Orders and payment must be deposited in the secure Band Booster Box in the band room by end of school, Tuesday November 24, 2015.
  • Mrs. Brandenburg will pick up the orders and leave when Mr. Townsend locks the room after school.

ILMEA Events:
ILMEA Jazz Band participants
  • ILMEA Sole Ensemble and Jazz Events: The students did very well in the bands.  Of particular note, all 5 of our Jazz players had solos, the most of any school that had students chosen for the bands.
  • ILMEA T-Shirt and Plaque Sales:  We manned the ILMEA's T-Shirt and Plaque booth.  The students did a great job and the sales went well.  Thanks to those that stepped up and worked for the band!
Lights Fantastic Parade:
  • We will be marching again with the Giant City and DeSoto schools mixed into our ranks.  We also marched with CMS last year, but this year they will march separately, as they have a marching program of their own.
  • The Marching Terriers light their own uniforms for the parade.
  • Students purchase, bring, and pin the lights onto their uniforms themselves.  On the night of the parade, they will need to bring their lights, batteries, and safety pins (tape will not stick to the uniforms).
  • Lights can be purchased at many businesses around town, including Hobby Lobby.
Winter Concert
The Winter Concert will be long this year, so an intermission is being planned.  We discussed asking for donation of cookies from our band parents, which everybody seemed to like.  Some discussion about punch or coffee/tea was made, but setting up and serving is an issue since most of us just want to watch the concert.  One of the CCHS clubs might be willing to help us out, and that is being looked into.  We'll send out an email with more information after Thanksgiving.

Committees, Events, and Fundraising:
  • Volunteer Coordinator: Kathie Rigney (VP@MarchingTerriers.com); she will be happy to assist anyone who would like to help out.
  • Apparel/Uniforms: Deirdre Stokes asked for some money to replace the lighted pins the band member wear on their uniforms during the Lights Fantastic Parade.  (The band supplies a lighted pin and a Santa hat; students decorate their own uniforms with lights they bring from home.)  The allowance was approved.
  • Program Advertisements: The list of sponsors will be passed to Kathie Rigney to be put into the Winter Program.
  • 50/50 Raffle: One of the band parents won the raffle at 2 games and donated most of their winnings back to the band, so we did well this year!
  • Fruit & Poinsettia: Susan Pimentel reported that the orders are in and the fruit will be delivered within the first two weeks of December.  When we get the call that the fruit is on the way, she will contact the greenhouse and the poinsettias will be delivered to CCHS the same day that the fruit arrives.  We did a great job selling this year, with a really good sale of poinsettias and better than average sale of fruit orders.
  • Christmas Tree Lot: Christmas trees have been ordered and everything from the growers is on schedule.  We will be selling trees on the Big Lots parking lot from Friday, November 27, 2015 to Wednesday, December 16, 2015.
  • Students' and parents' shift assignments will be posted soon.
  •  A record number of students volunteered this year, so many will only be assigned one or two shifts, depending on if they asked for popular times.  All students that asked for a shift will get at least one.
  • Quatro's: We made our goal of over $800!  Good job and thank you to everyone that participated.  We have more Quatro's cards for $10 ($10 value) for holiday gifts.  Email President@MarchingTerriers.com if you would like to make a purchase and we'll find an easy and convenient way to get them to you.
  • Larry's House of Cakes: We also have Larry's cards for $10 which gives you a dozen of their fresh-baked sugar cookies, chocolate or vanilla cupcakes, or brownies.  You can mix and match, no tax or hassle, just quick service with a smile! Email President@MarchingTerriers.com if you would like to make a purchase and we'll find an easy and convenient way to get them to you.
  • Trivia Night: The Trivia Night will be Saturday, February 27, 2016 at the Newman Center here in Carbondale.  We will send them a check to secure the night in addition to the agreement already made.
  • Band Banquet:  The banquet will be May 16, 2016.
  • Student Participation:  Susan Pimentel reported that 52% of the band student participated in the Fruit and Poinsettia Sale and that 65% of the students are scheduled for at least one shift at the Tree Lot.  When she looked at the number of students participating in either of our big fundraisers, Mrs. Pimentel found that 76% of the band students have made an effort to raise money for themselves and the band as a whole!
Booster Business:
  • Vice President:  Kathie Rigney is working on the Winter Concert program, and the Band Banquet.
  • Secretary:  Minutes from the last meeting were approved.
  • Treasurer: Some checks have just come in, notably from the ILMEA T-shirt and plaque sale booth we manned at Shryock.
  • Web Page: Catherine Keene will make a PDF flyer to download that helps explain the 2-Click fundraiser.
